Leasing is a huge part of the automotive industry and we've designed this offer to be a long-term and affordable way to ride
We are always looking for ways to make riding easier and better value. This a game-changer in the world of riding – affordable motorcycle leasing. So, grab a cup of coffee and let's dive right in!
You might be wondering, "Why lease a motorcycle when I could just buy one?" Well, that's a fantastic question! Leasing has some perks worth considering. You get to ride your dream bike without breaking the bank. I remember when I leased my first motorcycle; it felt like I had hit the jackpot. Lower monthly payments and flexible terms make it easier to fit into your budget.
Now, let's talk about the nitty-gritty stuff – the lease agreement. It's like the roadmap for your leasing journey. Make sure you understand it inside out before signing anything. Look out for details on monthly payments, and maintenance responsibilities. Usually, there is a catch when it comes to mileage restrictions and leasing but we thought, why restrict you when we can let you fully experience everything the bike has to offer so we have scrapped those annoying restrictions and given you unlimited Km's
When you lease a motorcycle, you're typically responsible for maintenance and insurance. But we don't like to stick to the norm so we cover the Bikes, Rego, Insurance, Roadside, and warranty. Just so you have peace of mind and don't have to even worry about all of that
Now, what happens when your lease is up? You usually have a few options – return the bike, extend the lease, or in our case swap it out for another bike in the lease fleet. That's the amazing thing about leasing through us, we have a HUGE range of different bikes available to lease that once you have joined you can return your bike and swap it out with anything else and keep riding
Before you lease, think about what type of motorcycle suits your needs and budget. Do you want a cruiser, a sportbike, or an adventure bike? or better yet swap out your bike and try them all
Regular maintenance is key to a smooth leasing experience. Keep your bike in top shape, and you'll avoid any surprises when it's time to return it.
Don't skimp on insurance. Make sure you have coverage that protects you and your leased motorcycle. It's a small price to pay for peace of mind.
It's super easy, head on over to our lease page in the tab at the top of the page or by CLICKING HERE.
Then all you have to do is fill in the form on the page to see which bikes are available then we'll contact you to help sort out all the details and get you riding
To sum it up, affordable motorcycle leasing is a fantastic option for riders who want to experience the thrill of the open road without breaking the bank. Remember to understand your lease agreement and choose the right bike for your needs. With a bit of research and smart decision-making, you'll be cruising on your dream motorcycle in no time. So, what are you waiting for? It's time to ride!

Aus #1 Value Cafe Racer just got bigger thats to its 400cc Parallel Twin
]]>Today we're diving into an epic showdown between two legendary dirt bike brands, Braaap and Suzuki.
Meet the Contenders: braaap MX450 and Suzuki DR-Z400
First up, let's talk about the Braaap MX450. With a reputation for producing top-notch dirt bikes, Braaap has become synonymous with performance and excitement in the off-road community. The MX450, in particular, is a motocross marvel with its lightweight chassis and aggressive power delivery. If you're a thrill-seeker who loves tearing up the track, the Braaap MX450 is designed to deliver the adrenaline rush you crave.
On the other side of the ring, we have the Suzuki DR-Z400. Suzuki, a venerable name in the motorcycle world, has carved its place in off-road biking with the DR-Z400. This bike is like a loyal companion that's always ready for adventure. With its torquey engine and reliable suspension setup, the DR-Z400 is a versatile and forgiving ride for enthusiasts of all skill levels.
Engine and Power
When it comes to sheer power, the Braaap MX450 roars like a lion. Its high-revving engine delivers explosive acceleration with 42HP, making it a beast on the motocross track and on the road. Remember my first time on the MX450? It was like straddling a rocket, and I couldn't get enough of the exhilarating ride.
Now, let's talk about the Suzuki DR-Z400's power. While it may not match the MX450 in raw aggression with 32HP, the DR-Z400's torquey engine provides a smooth and controlled power delivery. This makes it ideal for tackling technical trails and tight corners with confidence. I have some fantastic memories of exploring rugged terrains on the DR-Z400, and its dependable power never let me down.
Handling and Suspension
When it comes to handling, the Braaap MX450 is in a league of its own. The combination of its lightweight chassis and responsive suspension allows for precision control, making every jump and corner an opportunity to showcase your skills. I remember the time I took the MX450 to a motocross track for the first time; the way it effortlessly handled every obstacle left me in awe.
As for the Suzuki DR-Z400, it's a trail-blazing king! Its robust suspension soaks up bumps and rough terrains, providing a buttery-smooth ride even on challenging trails. I vividly recall a thrilling trail ride with my buddies, and the DR-Z400's handling gave me the confidence to conquer any obstacle in our path.
Performance: MX450's Dominance vs. DR-Z400's Versatility
MX450's Dominance on the Motocross Track
If motocross racing is your passion, the MX450 is designed to take you to new heights. Its dominance on the track is a result of its agility, power, and precise handling. Though it demands skill and practice to master, the MX450's exhilarating performance is worth every effort. You can even spec it out with motard wheels and take it on the road.
DR-Z400's Versatility for Trail Riding
On the other hand, if you're looking for a bike that can handle diverse off-road adventures, the Suzuki DR-Z400 is your go-to option. Its versatility shines on all terrains, from winding forest trails to open desert paths. I have had some unforgettable experiences exploring nature's wonders on the DR-Z400, and its reliable performance never fails to impress.
Choose Your Champion
In the showdown between Braaap and Suzuki dirt bikes, the MX450 and DR-Z400 each offer a unique off-road experience. If you crave adrenaline-pumping motocross thrills, the Braaap MX450 is your ticket to speed and excitement. On the other hand, if you seek versatility and reliability for your off-road explorations, the Suzuki DR-Z400 is the faithful companion you can trust.
So, whether you're a motocross daredevil or a trailblazing enthusiast, both of these bikes have something special to offer. Embrace the dirt, embrace the adventure, and choose the dirt bike that suits your riding style and preferences!

When it comes to the world of motorcycles, two names stand out - the braaap Moto4 and the Kawasaki Ninja 300. Both bikes have earned a reputation for their exceptional performance and are popular choices among riders. In this article, we'll delve into a detailed comparison between the braaap Moto4 and the Ninja300 and how you can get your hands on both of them.
Braaap and Kawasaki are two iconic names that evoke excitement and passion in the motorcycle community. Let's take a closer look at what each bike has to offer:
The braaap Moto4 exudes an aura of power and freedom, perfect for new and experienced riders seeking adrenaline-pumping adventures. With its striking design and powerful engine, this bike is a true head-turner. It's our most popular sports bike and truly packs a punch, its also LAMS approved so anyone can enjoy the Moto4
On the other hand, we have the Kawasaki Ninja 300, a bike that embodies speed, agility, and precision. Its sleek design and sporty appearance make it an instant attraction. Don't be fooled by its compact size; the Ninja 300 packs a punch with its impressive acceleration and nimble handling, making it a popular choice for urban riders and those who love weaving through traffic.
When it comes to performance, both bikes have their strengths.
The Moto4's raw power translates to jaw-dropping acceleration on open roads. I still remember the thrill of hitting the highway, twisting the throttle, and feeling the bike launch forward like a rocket. that being said it handles the narrow and occasionally pothole filled roads of Frankston like a dream
In the corners, the Moto4 held its ground with remarkable stability. I felt confident and in control, even during challenging bends. On the other hand, the Ninja300's nimbleness allowed me to weave through traffic effortlessly, making it a perfect bike for urban adventures.
Now, you may be thinking to yourself, 'Hmmm I kind of want to try them both'.
Leasing through braaap allows you to enjoy all the perks of riding BOTH of these powerful machines without the long-term financial commitment of buying. With flexible lease terms and very affordable payment options, you can hit the road on the braaap Moto4 or the Ninja300 without breaking the bank.
Whether you want to experience the thrill of off-road adventures or simply want to stand out with a powerful and unique bike, a braaap lease opens up a world of possibilities.
In conclusion, both the braaap Moto4 and the Ninja300 are exceptional motorcycles. If you crave the rush of a solid sports bike that won't break the bank, the Moto4 is the way to go at only $4,899.00 at the time of writing this.
Both the braaap Moto4 and the Kawasaki Ninja300 are availble through our lease program, which you can find a link for below:

So, whether you choose the Braaap Moto4 or the Ninja 300, get ready to embark on thrilling journeys and experience the joy of motorcycle freedom. Happy riding!

]]>Today I did 23.14 KMs in 1.15 hours and the battery ended with 60% Charge still in it.
I am loving Ebiking, Dam it is fun! It's everything I love about Mountain Biking but you get to cover way more ground and don't get totally smashed by hills thats to the Battery!
I have upgraded the front forks in my bike to the Fox 34's, I got them off Marketplace, They bolted straight in, took me 10 mins!
Other than the forks my bikes is stock standard.
I even have the 25Km speed sensor restrictor on it still which means once it gets to 25km/hr no more battery power pedal assist, A gov't rule. I know everyone will find a way to remove this but of course keeping it offical I won't tell you how or show you how & I legit have it on mine still as people seem to want to test ride my bike all the time after I tell them I work at braaap LOL.
Over Summer I rode my Ebike with my wife as we went caravanning, She loves it, My daughter on the back loving it too.
My In-Laws also re sparked their inner youth and fell in love with Ebiking, Simon may just be Adelaide Hills biggest advocate for Ebiking now!
I share this to show how much Ebiking is fun for everyone, From myself who likes to turn strava on and smash the trails as fast & hard as I can, to my wife who likes sight seeing and just doesn't want to pedal up hills, My daughter on our Daddy Daughter ride dates and even my in-laws who are at the stage of life where they just want to have a nice easy ride for fun or sight seeing, thats the Aim of the EMTB.

Hey Guys,
This page is to capture the updates on the ST250 delivery, This update was sent out on Saturday 29/8/20 via email to all of you whom are eagerly awaiting the delivery of your bike.
Please see below.
Additional to this update I've recorded a quick response to a few extra questions that came up in response to my video message.
1. Is there a change to the bike that triggered the bike to not be approved the same as the Moto3 has been?
The ST250 Motorcycle is the same as the last shipment, there are no changes to the motorcycle and therefore no reason for it not to be approved.
2. Is there anything we can do as a group to help? For example lobby the Government?
I appreciate this question! Great thinking. At this point I don't believe this is possible as we are bound by the Government's confidentiality conditions which means we don't think we are allowed to reveal the names of those who are reviewing our case. We will continue to seek advice on this as I know there are dozens of ppl who are ready to offer support if it will help.
My main appeal to you is to refrain from joining any hate campaign against us in this time, We are truly doing our best to navigate through circumstances that are not fair nor were they foreseen. Those who are causing us huge amounts of pain and attacking us online & on the phones really aren't helping the situation come in to order, It just adds weight. For everyone to get a successful outcome we need to see braaap remain strong & we are, although we are frustrated we are strong and will weather this storm in time. We've had so much great support this week which makes a huge difference to us and I am incredibly grateful to those people who've emailed us with support & encouragement, I printed every message and have read them out multiple times as we've been in a real battle and this type of encouragement from you strengthens us, so thank you!!
]]>Thanks so much for everyones patience and being awesome while we work through this delay.
The guts of it is that we have bikes built and ready to dispatch but the government paper work has not arrived yet. We need these approvals for the bikes to be compliant and ready for you to register.
We have been doing everything we can to speed the Gov't up. I have hired an expert consultant to communicate to them, We had our federal member for parliament meet with the Minister of infrastructure who is also the deputy Prime Minister and we hoped that this would push our file to the top of the job list inside the department. We've apparently made progress but we still haven't received the required papers. Apparently others are experiencing delays also.
It costs us a lot to wait so we are motivated to get the bikes delivered but more importantly we just want you to have the bike and be riding as expected.
Please stay tuned for more specific updates.
See some pics of some of the production below from when Paul our head mechanic who is also my father and I went to China late in 2019 to produce the Cafe Racer ST250 models which are waiting to be delivered.
This delay is for the SS125cc and the ST250 that was hoped to be delivered in Dec/Jan or Feb.
Also please note we are now selling April stock, this is not your shipment so don't stress! These are seperate shipments of bikes. You may see ads and promotions for the waiting list which is our promo to sell the next shipments.
Always happy to answer any questions, SMS is best so I can call or text back. Im available on 0499 27 22 27.
Also we have left the FLASH SALE for parts up on the website, this was only meant to be 24 hours as we've negotiated to drive pricing down and pass the savings on. Our suppliers and us have agreed to leave it up while the delay is on. Click here.
Thanks.

Firstly; Thank you for such an awesome response to our 2020 model launch sale. If you are receiving this email/blog then you have decided to back us, trust us and ride with us, I appreciate this and can’t wait to deliver your new bike!
It has been great to chat to so many of you myself over the past few weeks.
Please see below a bit of an update on the production of your new bike and the delivery date.
On December 1, 2, 3 & 4 we were in China on the assembly line where we completed the production of all of your motorcycles.
Our process is to design the bike here in Australia, We then produce the bikes in Jaingmen, China before we ship them to Frankston here in Aus for final assembly, compliance and quality control.
Pauly (who is our head mechanic, spare parts guru and my Dad) and I flew into Guangzhou and made our way to Jaingmen with the job of leading the assembly line, running quality control and ensuring successful audits of all compliance requirements inline with the Australian design rules for street legal motorcycles.
The motorcycles are all ready to go our end and now we await the Government approval to ship the bikes, We are still on track to deliver to customers early-mid January but please stay tuned for any updates.
Please keep your eye out for the upcoming flash sale on all after market accessories for the bike, riding gear and other upgrades.
From the team here at braaap, our family and myself we are super grateful to have you on board a braaap in 2020!!
We have a huge back log of calls at the moment so please SMS me if you have any questions as I always reply. 0499 27 22 27.
Thanks,
Brad
CEO/Founder
I love seeing the bikes all lined up at the end of the production line. They wait here after they have passed quality control and are ready to be packaged into boxes for shipment. We completely assemble the bikes and then semi dis-assemble them for shipping to Australia for their final assembly in Frankston.
The jury is out on whether this is all for the camera or I’m actually doing something… A huge part of our compliance process is making sure the European certificates align with our Australian Design Rules compliance. We have had 3 federal Audits in the last few years which means we have a rigid process and have full accountability to the Australian government.
Our point of different is that we use Australian engineering standards with Chinese manufacturing efficiencies. A high quality bike at an aggressive price! This picture captures Paul (Our head mechanic and brains trust on how to build a high quality bike) chatting with Mr Yan (Our brains trust on how to build a bike efficiently and with high levels of consistency). Mr Yan has been building suspension and other components for Honda for nearly 20 years. He is an absolute God send to us and there is no way we could do what we do with out him. His knowledge from Honda as well as his engineering training with the Chinese aviation defence program is put to use here at braaap!
The production line runs like a well oiled machine now. At braaap we are almost 15 years into this but we are launching of the shoulders of people who have spent decades perfecting how to building a motorcycle efficiently, consistently and to a high standard.
The testing lab.
Some tail lights in position at their station on the production line.

Work sucks sometime but getting there never does when you rip through traffic on a bike.
With legal lane splitting and free foot-path parking you are mad not to ride to work here in Melbourne.
Today I rode the braaap urban 125cc from Frankston to Melbourne in less than an hour with out taking a toll road.
I hate commuting and waiting in traffic when I drive the car but on the bike I love it.
Don't wait at the lights, roll right to the front thanks to legal lane splitting here in Melbourne.
Because I can lane split on the bike I usually avoid toll roads and still arrive at my destination faster than driving.
Free Parking in Melbourne. How good is that! Park right at the door step of your location with legal foot path parking in most of Melbourne.Save Fuel

The DGR is a charitable event raising awareness and funds for the Movember Foundation's men's health programs. The subjects Movember and DGR combat are listed below. More detailed information can be found here.
Prostate Cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in men (after skin cancer). In some western countries, more men die of it than women die of breast cancer. The Movember Foundation is the largest organization supporting programs against this scourge, both educational and combative, in the world.
Prostate cancer only affects men, as women do not have a prostate gland. Risk factors for developing the disease include:
Age - The older a man, the more likely he is to be diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Family History - A man with a father or brother who developed prostate cancer is twice as likely to develop the disease.
Ethnicity - Increased occurrence in black African and Afro-Caribbean males.
Suicide is the biggest killer of men aged 20-39. 75% of suicides are male. Worldwide, over half a million men die from suicide, this is a rate of one every minute. A horrifying statistic.
There’s no shame in checking in your own mental wellbeing, and those close to around you, nor should there be. The Movember Foundation has produced some handy guides to help anyone in broaching the subject:

Together, the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride and the Movember Foundation are breaking down these barriers that exist in men, but they need your help.
You can register to take part in this year's Distinguished Gentleman's Ride here.
The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is a niche charity event held on the last Sunday in September with smart-suited gentlefolk riding their Cafe' Racer, Bobber, Classic, Tracker, Scrambler, Old School Chopper, Modern Classic, Sidecar, Classic Scooter or Brat Styled motorcycles.
]]>Well, this might seem like a stupid question but so many riders don't properly consider what type of riding they plan to do.
As much as we hate to know it we are all restricted by affordability, my question is really around have you thought about payment options such as an interest-free payment plan that allows you to pay the bike weekly, as you get paid. Most motorcycles are sold on these plans.
Labour rates in a mechanical workshop are around $100 per hour and genuine parts from the major manufacturers are not cheap, it only takes one thing to go wrong for a motorcycle with a limited or no warranty to cost you more than one that has a warranty such as the braaap lifetime warranty.
best to chat to your local dealer but insurance can also be paid weekly when you sign up at the point of sale.
Are you buying from a dealer who has good mechanical support? It's more about what happens if something goes wrong.
Is the bike ready to rock, or do I need to modify or service it in order to keep it on the road? Is the price I'm paying for the bike really the total price or is it going to drain the bank over the first year.
I love this questions and obviously, I am one eyed braaap but based on our price point and limited supply which creates scarcity and therefore keeps second-hand prices high you are far less likely to write off a large chunk of change on a braaap than you are on a major brand bike or a new car.
Silly questions I know, I mean am I licensed and also can I ride the bike to its potential. So many people buy bikes they don't need to buy, For Eg why would you buy a 1000cc to ride to work or cruise between cafes on the weekend. you don't need to over spec your ride. Buy a bike built for what you want to do.
This is a question we always ask because most people keep their braaap and if they decide they want another bike they buy a second bike.
We don't sell food, we are not doctors, no one needs a motorcycle, we want them. This means we should buy from a place that cares, a place that's fun, a place that makes it easy.

If you earn 60k/ year and we save you 3k per year that’s the same as a 5% pay rise, actually after tax you’d need to earn over $6,000 bonus to get $3,000 in your back pocket.
The problem is none of us are paid for the commute to and from work.
This article is an overview of how I have saved 30 minutes a day or 2.5 hours a week which compounded over the course of a year works out to 3 full working weeks a year, How I have saved $3284 per year and had a tonne of fun doing it.
This is why I ride a motorcycle to work.
The reason I work is to earn money. I like my job but I like the weekend way more. I’m a numbers guy so I wanted to know the numbers on what it cost me to get to and from work every day.
I figured for every $5,000 a year I can save on the commute it’s the same as my boss giving me a $9,800 bonus thanks to the Australian taxman taking 48 cents in every dollar of bonus’s paid.
Riding a motorcycle to work saves me $3284 a year which is over 60 bucks in the week to week expenses; excluding the amount my car devalues every year in comparison to my motorcycle.
Including depreciation, the Motorcycle puts me closer to $10,000 a year ahead of the car. That’s more like a $20,000 bonus I’d need to cover the car.
My car costs $482 a year to insure, My bike is $324, My car costs $875 to service and my bike costs $159, my car costs $12 a day to park where my motorcycle is free, My car uses more than twice the fuel and tyres are 6x more expensive for my car than my motorcycle.
I’m the kind of person who sells his car, banks the money, puts his bike on one of the Interest-free payment plans and rides into the sunset.
Phil - The Moto3 has been awesome, I love the look and feel of the bike, would highly recommend.
I work 11km from my house which in a car at peak hour can take up to an hour. On a train, it's 40 minutes plus a 7-minute walk to and from the station.
My Motorcycle takes 18 minutes, I park at the front door and have no walking time.
In my state it's legal to split lanes (Only recently land splitting became legal, I've always done it though)
Again I’m a numbers guy and I worked out that even if I saved 15 minutes in the morning, that means I get to see my son for 15 minutes longer before school starts, which based on the fact that he is only awake for 90 minutes before he goes to school I will actually get to spend 16% more time with my son in the morning.
That 15 minutes is doing up shoe laces, making sure he starts the day with a positive chat, or just packing lunch and being together. Maybe the most important 15 minutes of his day.
If I get home 15 minutes earlier based on him only being home for 3 hours before he goes to bed I get an extra 6% more time with him, This is usually throwing the ball and doing stuff.
So for every day I ride to work I get an extra half hour with my Son, this means I get to be involved in an extra 22% of his time, “at home awake” time.
Or I couldn’t just remind myself that I frigging hate traffic, I hate public transport and I hate wasting time in the car.
Ok so I told you I love saving money, I love saving time but maybe the most important thing is I love the freedom of riding a motorcycle. Nothing beats rocking up to work with a smile on your face. Yeah sometimes work sucks, but getting here never does.
Riding a motorcycle to work came with a few concerns for me, the first of which was that I love to talk on my mobile phone, I’m on the thing all day, every day.
I purchased a blue tooth connector that is voice activated, I talk all the way to work sometimes, or listen to music, the radio or sometimes I just ride and enjoy the sound of my bike. Most importantly I have options such as the new blue tooth devices.
I was worried about not being able to see my phone and what’s happening, so I purchased a phone holder to keep all my info right in front of me on my dash. I can voice-activate my SMS replies, emails or calls. See my social media coming in.
I've purchased a set of wet weathers that live under my seat, I've worn them 2 times, I arrived dry, warm and all good. I hate catching the train on rainy days cause its so packed, I hate driving on rainy days because it's hectic, so I still ride. I just put my wet weathers over the top of my suit.
Again I’m never cold, with my jacket, my pants, and my neck warmer I'm good to go no matter what the weather, sure if I rode in a t-shirt I'd be cold but I have the right gear so no problem.
And now you know.
If only it were that easy. Let's begin with the Café Racer. These bikes mean many different things to many different people (for a fantastic look at the love that goes into these machines check out http://www.returnofthecaferacers.com/ or http://caferacerdesign.com/).
The basic Wikipedia history lesson goes like this. Back in the 50's bike owners would strip down and customise their own road bikes to imitate the Moto Grand Prix bikes. It was a craze primarily in Britain and Europe. The inspired style features a very distinctive line under the fuel tank and along the base of the seat parallel to the ground.
The name Café-Racer was originally a mildly derogatory term describing “a motorcyclist who played at being an Isle of Man Racer” and would seldom make it very far away from the café's they would frequent. Ultimately, the term has been fondly adopted to celebrate the undeniable style such creations represented.
The “Brat” is Japans foray into the Café-Racer style. They feature a very distinctive skateboard or banana-like styled seats.
At first glance the Tracker looks very similar to the Café-Racer and while there are some similarities the origin of the tracker is in the name. The tracker is a design that stems from American dirt track racing.
So street trackers are designed to imitate flat tracker bikes as opposed to the Moto GP bikes the Café's imitated. They are usually single seaters supporting a more upright position for the rider. The most famous trackers would be those ridden by Evel Knievel.
Scrambler. Scramblers are very similar to trackers but the pipes tend to run higher to keep out of any mud or other off-road hazards. They also feature knobbly tyres for more of an off-road feel.
Choppers start with a rigid frame and get "chopped" to extend the front forks and often feature high arching handlebars. It's probably the style of bike you think of when you hear "Bikie."
Bobbers are similar to Choppers but with straight handlebars and are always single seaters.
Is there anything we’ve missed? Leave your comments or any questions below or share your own Story. While you’re here check out braaap’s own range of Café-Racers available here.

]]>That worrying moment when your child asks for a motorcycle.
I’m a passionate parent, I have dedicated my life to parenting with the intent to developing happy, passionate, considerate kids who add value to the world and I’m glad to have your attention for a few moments to share my story and the lessons I’ve learned.
As a parent, it’s our natural instinct to protect our children.
It’s in our soul to worry for our children and we have an innate need to prepare our children for the world.
I remember the day my son started nagging me for a motorcycle, I felt sick at the thought of him riding.
My parents weren’t motorcyclist’s so, of course, they were concerned…
My mum (His Grand Mother) would buy my son the latest football or a video game as a tactic to try and get him focused on a more normal activity… but all he wanted was to watch the motocross videos and talk about when he was going to ride a motorcycle.
My friends filled me with horror stories and told me how they got their boys into soccer or basketball… why wouldn’t I get my son into something safer they would ask… Oh, and of course then there is the cost of a motorcycle and on they would rant about motorcycling...
I was a worried mother nervous about the thought of motorcycling.
Then one day I met Andrea……….
Andrea was the mother of a Motorcyclist… I told her about my son and I asked her about all my concerns….
Her answer’s changed my life as a parent….
After carrying a knot in my stomach, being torn between letting my son do something he is obviously passionate about and me protecting him…… “to ride” or “not to ride” was the question…
Andrea made it 100000% clear to me that my job as a mother is to prepare my children for life. The only way to protect them is to prepare them.
It’s our job to Equip our children with the self-esteem, the character and the tools to grow into capable, passionate, happy humans.
“Honey, you have 2 options. Either let him ride or don’t let him ride…. But remember it’s not about the bike...”
I’m curious… “It’s not about the bike?”
“Young people need adrenalin, they need to take risks, we need to teach them how to take educated risks. They need to learn focus, they need to learn consequence, cause, and effect, they need to learn respect.
“Restraining our children is a Band-Aid fix, training them lasts forever.”
Suppressing the desire of a child is not safety, it's selfish, and it's only delaying the fact that one day he is going to ride. Against your wish.
Did you know that around 80% of males will ride a motorcycle in their life?
“I’d rather my son learn to ride in a fun, safe, and controlled environment now than to one day go against my word and learn from friends.”
“I’d rather him have nothing to prove when it comes time to get his driver’s license.”
“I want my son to have a passion that keeps him focused and disciplined.”
So here are the facts.
When your son learns to ride he will be wearing all the protective gear, a full face helmet, body armour, gloves, boots, goggles, a neck brace, the works, he may even use training wheels. His motorcycle will be restricted and he will be going slower than he rides his bicycle, he will be getting coached by someone who knows what they are doing and most importantly he will be doing something he loves.
I think it’s our job as mothers to teach our kids to focus, to give our children the gift of discipline and to show our kids how to take educated risks.
I know the motorcycle is a worry, it’s our job to worry. But isn’t our job to see our children live, to light up, to do what they love?
Boredom is a risk, disrespect is a risk, taking drugs is a risk, riding a pushbike with no helmet is a risk.
Riding a motorcycle in a controlled safe environment with all the protective gear and guidance possible is an educated risk.
Motorcycling is statistically safer than the School playground, playing football, and many other common sports but our sport is misunderstood because most parents aren’t motorcyclist’s themselves.
Motorcycling gives your child self-esteem.
Motorcycling gives your child an outlet to channel all emotions, excitement, frustration. Everything. A bad day at school is long forgotten as soon as that bike is kicked into gear.
Motorcycling develops self-esteem.
Studies tell us that Self Esteem grows when we grow, it grows when we stand out in a positive way and it grows when we do something we enjoy.
After teaching over 1000 people how to ride a motorcycle the number 1 change I see is a positive increase in self Value. The shy/quiet personality comes alive and out of the shell. The over confident and out-there personality is humbled. Motorcycling is the ultimate Self Esteem Balancer.
It is proven that motion creates emotion. You cannot be depressed if you move in a positive way. As Human’s Motion Creates positive emotions. Motorcycling makes you feel good.
Discipline is the reason so many youth challenges are growing at exponential levels, we live in a world where our kids don’t learn discipline. Mum and Dad, whether they admit it or not, do way too much for their children and our marketplace does whatever possible to keep young people comfortable. Motorcycling breeds discipline, when you find discipline in one area of your life it filters through to other areas of your life. The young person who learns the disciplines of looking after his motorcycle is leaps and bounds ahead of the kids who spend their time on the computer or playing ball sports.
“You can ride the bike as soon as your homework is done” Motorcycling is leverage.
Motorcycling makes us hungry to be better, it fills us with desire. Desire drives us to be more, do more and give more.
Dirt bike Kids learn respect. They respect the track, they respect their ability, they respect their bikes. We have taken the most disengaged youth and sat them on a motorcycle, through our 5 step process we ensure the motorcycle demands their respect in a safe and controlled environment. Send me a disrespectful kid who wants to ride, sit him on the motorcycle in front of an obstacle that impresses him as much as it scares him and I’ll show you a kid who learns respect fast.
Motocross teaches us to prepare, we have to think about what we will need for the day, prepare our goggles, our gear, and our bikes. This is all stuff the kids should do themselves.
As soon as the helmet comes on the only thing in the world that matters is the track in front of you, learn to focus. In a world of distraction, our average attention span has gone from 22 minutes in the 1930s to 7 seconds for our young people. 7 seconds!!! We need to teach our kids to focus!
The subconscious mind is our most powerful tool. Motorcycling will grow the subconscious mind. First, you see an obstacle, then you see yourself completing the obstacle, then you complete the obstacle. Turn your vision into action. What a metaphor for life, what a lesson for life.
Motorcycling is one of the most physically and mentally demanding sports in the world. If you think riding a motorcycle is easy on the fitness, then you haven’t ridden!
Many motorcycling families become friends for life, you meet like-minded people who are outdoors having fun. As in any sport, there are people from all walks of life. I Guarantee you will meet like-minded families.
Kids want excitement, riding a motorcycle is the ultimate in the minds of many young people. No 2 days riding are the same. Create a childhood that impacts your kid for life, make memories. Create experience, fill your kid up with positive emotions. Excite them and Inspire them.
Motorcycling is a family sport. It brings us together. The family that plays together stays together.
The father who spends time at the track with his daughter, the mother who inspires her son to improve his riding, the family that rides together stays together. Many parents ride, some don’t, either way, your common interest with your children is an asset that will be an asset as your child grows up.
We know it does for us.
That’s why we ride to and from work. Over time a lot of people have always seen motorcycles as a recreational machine, while this is still true today motorcycles also play a bigger role in our day to day lives if we let them and there are plenty of benefits to go along with it. For a start...
Why sit in traffic for longer than you need to when you could ride the bike? You have to admit, it's a lot more fun straight up, it gets the blood flowing and you get a sense that you're alive.
Lane splitting is now legal in most states (check your local gov website) and this spells shortcuts for bikes. No more waiting at the end of the traffic jam, simply split the middle and carry through to the front, for me personally it cuts 30 minutes off my travel to work.
Much cheaper, a bike will do around 2.5ltr per 100km, even in traffic, so they are hugely better on fuel, which means….. You save. This may not sound like much, but when you break it down and put it over a year, it’s pretty large. For example:
Average car gets around 10ltr per 100km if you're lucky
If you drive 100km per week that’s a cost of $12 per week (@1.2 per Ltr)
If you ride 100km per week that’s a cost of around $3 per week
That's a saving of around $468 per year.
And that is just the fuel… The car is also a lot more expensive to run day to day. You have 4 tyres to replace, a larger engine to service, more to clean... The list goes on.
Yeah, I know what your thinking, a Melbourne, Adelaide or Tasmanian winter will kill that idea, but I have news for you, if you are prepared right you will be toasty all year round.
Items such as: heated hand grips, heated jackets, pullover leathers and woollen gloves you won’t even be thinking about how cold it is outside of your winter suit.
There is no better feeling that standing around before or after work chewing the cud with your mates from work about your trip in, or the bike itself, it’s a great conversation starter and you'll have more friends from riding a bike (not a proven fact LOL)
It’s the bane of driving a car in the big city. Even the smaller ones. Parking is a necessary evil of the working world, it’s expensive, it fills up fast and it requires you normally to have to park and walk a distance to work every day.
With a bike it’s a different story, if you have a half decent boss he will let you park in the foyer, every foyer needs a bike after all. If you live in one of the area’s that allows motorcycle parking on the footpath..well your clearly in luck and even if you don't have either of these.
Remember your bike does not take up a lot of room, you can tuck it behind your building, put it in the ally, or speak to your local ticket man, pay him off and park on the side… (Kidding, that would be unethical of course and maybe while I'm at it, avoid exit ways and stairwells.. These areas are not a good idea)

Built by Tasmanian motorcycle enthusiast Mal Innes-Wayling.
braaap Motorcycles Australia: We are the Australian motorcycle company. We utilise Australian engineering standards and global manufacturing efficiencies to deliver a world class motorcycle that is backed by lifetime warranty and available at a super aggressive price. Read more about us here
The build started as a standard braaap ST-250 Shadow 2015 Mercury Model. 2016 ST-250 Shadows are now available from $4499 or from $23/week on a payment plan to approved purchasers.
Mal built the Custom Cafe from his shed at home.
The old school rustic tank which Mal fitted to the braaap makes it one of a kind. The tank is set off by a matching front guard which has been shortened and given the same rustic finish as the tank. Mal took 3 inches out of the front fork length giving the bike a low and compact look.
The headlight bracket was adjusted to bring the headlight 20mm closer to the forks, the speedo bracket was adjusted to lower the gauges 15mm which gives a clean and compact finish to the front end of the motorcycle. Subtle refinements like this are the attention to detail that makes building your own cafe racer rewarding.
The battery eliminator is one of the most popular cafe racer customisations. Achieved by removing the standard battery mount and airbox. Usually, an aftermarket battery is fitted up under the seat however Mal has utilised the standard battery by remounting it just above the swing arm pivot, you can just see it in this picture above. The air box is removed and an aftermarket paper-based air filter is installed. (Note; Not ideal for wet riding conditions)
The exhaust is adjusted and the standard muffler replaced with Mal's aftermarket version, it puts out a superb note with this muffler installed.
Mal has played inside the top end of the engine by match porting and smoothening out the flow of the head. Mid range performance is improved enough for an average rider to notice the difference.
The final touch on the "Mad Merc" is the clip-on handlebars and rear set foot pegs.
The bars give that race look and feel while the rear set foot pegs get the feet off the ground and give plenty of lean angles just like the old school cafe racers that inspired this build.
A picture of the Mad Merc in Mal's garage mid build. As you can see it took some different direction before the final detail was nailed.

As a niche manufacturer whenever we develop a new motorcycle we always start out by asking: "What can we do to add value to the rider we are building the motorcycle for?". We built the ST250 with a few main priorities:
1. It had to look on point with the "cafe racer" scene out of the box. We want people to be proud of their braaap.
2. It had to be absolutely reliable and built to a high enough quality that we can offer our braaap "Lifetime Warranty"
3. It had to be the perfect "blank canvas" for both professional bike builders and back yard DIY owners.
4. It had to be at a price point that made it a no-brainer to buy new rather than second hand.
5. It had to sound good!
6. We had to launch it with a huge range of aftermarket accessories so each one can become unique.
